Trust in the Only Sacrifice for Sins
Topic: Hebrews Scripture: Hebrews 10:26–10:31
The sermon text will be Hebrews 10:26-31, the fourth major warning passage in the epistle. We will see that the purpose of such passages is not to cause us to feel uncertain of our salvation, but to continually focus our attention upon Christ and his benefits. The Westminster Confession of Faith Ch. 18, section 1 summarizes it this way: "Although hypocrites and other unregenerate men may vainly deceive themselves with false hopes and fleshly presumptions that they are in God's favor and in a state of salvation, this hope of theirs will perish. Nevertheless, those who truly believe on the Lord Jesus, love him sincerely, and strive to live in all good conscience before him, may in this life be certainly assured that they are in the state of grace and may rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, a hope that shall never make them ashamed."
