Jesus Came to Bring Light to a Dark World

Pastor: Ben Muresan Topic: Advent Scripture: John 12:46

Merry Christmas! It is such a blessing on this Lord’s Day for us to gather to worship the Son who is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

The sermon text will be Luke 19:10, "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

Scripture describes our spiritual state without Christ as totally depraved. This means that we are not merely a little messed up, but we are radically corrupt. The darkness that is in us and in the world is not merely dim, but pitch black because it is opposed to God. Without Jesus we are dead and in darkness. We are lost. So when the Lord Jesus says in John 12:46, “I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness,” he explains his mission in coming to give us light and life. By his coming into the world—an advent that was heralded by bring light (Luke 2:9), he both revealed our spiritual darkness and died to deliver us from it.
